Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy

Hand therapy is rehabilitation performed by an occupational therapist on patients with conditions affecting the hands and upper extremities. Such therapy is performed by a provider with a high degree of specialization that requires extensive continuing education and often advanced certification. This enables the hand therapist to work with patients to hasten their return to a productive lifestyle.

Vital Energy can address developmental milestones in children with a variety of issues and disabilities. During therapy sessions, we focus on the child’s movements and interaction with objects, people, and their environment. Different toys or games are used to provide just the right challange in order to address your child's specific needs. Common areas of focus in children are to improve balance, coordination, motor skills, eye-hand coordination, handwriting, sensory processing, attention and/or concentration, and overall behavior.

Treatment for Migraines and TMJ

At Vital Energy, our therapists have extensive experience treating migraines and TMJ, or temporomandibular joint dysfunction. This disorder restricts your ability to move your jaw up and down and side to side, affecting everyday activities such as speaking or chewing. It can be caused by grinding your teeth, arthritis in the joint, or stress that causes you to tighten facial and jaw muscles. TMJ and frequent migraine headaches are usually closely related.

Myofascial Release and Stretching

Myofascial Release (MFR) Therapy is a commonly accepted therapy modality where therapists use their hands to manually release the tension i the muscle. This method is a non-invasive and drug-free procedure used to break up restrictive fascia and scar tissue in the muscle. During this treatment, the therapist may also use a set of tools to glide over the muscles in a cross-fiber massage in order to stimulate the nerve endings in the muscles and increase blood flow throughout.

Women's Health Issues

We offer specialized services to breast cancer patients by supplementing the care provided by an oncologist or surgeon. We can offer specific guidance to help get you through your battle, including nutritional counseling on special diets, breathing techniques and meditation, lymphedema prevention, self-esteem/self-image boosters, and post-cancer precautions. Prior to a mastectomy or double mastectomy, it is beneficial to receive muscle energy treatments in order to increase energy level as well as strengthen your arm, shoulder and back. After surgery or chemotherapy, we work with breast cancer patients to increase range of motion and flexibility while decreasing fascia restrictions, all-over body pain, and scar prominence. Also, we offer crystal myofascial release to decrease numbness, burning, and hypersensitivity specifically around the scar area.
