Parkinson's Disease Treatment

Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that, over time, affects and limits movement. However, as time progresses, symptoms can become much worse. Although there is no cure for this disease, proper treatment can markedly improve symptoms. Occupational Therapist, Hima Dalal, is LSVT BIG certified and committed to helping improve the quality of life of individuals suffering from Parkinson's Disease.

What causes Parkinson's disease?

Symptoms of Parkinson's disease are caused by low levels of dopamine, a brain chemical involved in controlling movement. As the brain slowly stops producing dopamine, a person has less and less ability to regulate their movements, body and emotions. Although the cause of Parkinson's disease is unknown, genetic makeup and environmental triggers appear to play a role.

Symptoms of Parkinson's

  • Hand tremors

  • Impaired voice or soft, slurred speech

  • Abnormal sleep patterns, including daytime sleepiness, early awakening or restlessness

  • Fatigue, dizziness and poor balance

  • Anxiety or Apathy
