Take 5! LMC Heart Fair

The power of breath to heal is often overlooked. For centuries, deep breathing has been proven to promote healing within the body. It is often associated with the art of meditation and has been scientifically proven and accepted in modern medicine.

The art of meditation is powerful but easy to learn and practice. The process of inward attention which allows oneself to explore one’s level of consciousness is called meditation. Yoga breath, also known as pranayama, when combined with meditation will promote deep relaxation and inner peace as well as harmony in one’s cellular and endocrine systems, and in turn, promote inner healing. This will build internal strength and stamina on a mental, physical, and emotional level.

Furthermore, it improves your focus and life force energy. Meditation and yoga breathing is often used in rehabilitative therapy through OT/PT to address generalized weakness and pain whether the pain be neurological, muscular, fascia pain, or joint pain. It can also be highly beneficial for those with heart conditions, mental illness, anxiety, depression, ADHD/ADD, allergy disorders, breathing disorders, and autoimmune disorders such as fibromyalgia, AIDS, and rheumatoid arthritis. Even issues pertaining to women’s health, hormone imbalances, obesity, and trauma/PTSD can be treated very effectively with the power of deep breathing.

A study conducted by the Harvard Medical School also concluded that meditation increases the brain’s capacity to retain information. They began with the hypothesis that people who meditate have more control over the alpha brain waves responsible for sifting through information. Thus, these people are more able to block distracting thoughts and retain important information for processing. According to the findings of the study, people who practice meditation regularly showed more focus, presence of mind, and sharpness of intellect.
